Calendar¶
The Calendar tab combines a month grid with an agenda. Connect Google Calendar or choose Add CalDAV calendar under Preferences → Calendars. Enter your server URL, username and app password, then choose Find calendars. Shep tests authentication, discovers calendar homes and lists event calendars for you to select. Direct collection URLs also work. Reconnecting the same URL and username updates the existing connection without duplicating it.
CalDAV discovery follows same-server redirects, /.well-known/caldav, the current user's principal and calendar-home properties. It verifies HTTPS certificates and stops before forwarding credentials to another server; enter that server's address explicitly when needed. Plain HTTP remains limited to localhost. Servers that advertise only task collections do not appear as event calendars.
Calendar permissions distinguish creating, editing and deleting events. Read-only calendars remain available to view, and new events default to a writable calendar. Google permissions refresh during calendar sync; calendars exposing only free/busy information are not imported as event calendars. If a previously connected Google calendar disappears from a complete list, its cached events remain available and editing is disabled. CalDAV permissions come from discovery when the server reports them; otherwise the server enforces access on each request.
Remove a mail account or calendar from Preferences → Accounts / Calendars using its trash button. The confirmation shows exactly how many downloaded messages, drafts or cached events will be removed locally. Server originals and existing backups are kept. Unfinished cross-account moves need a separate confirmation; destination copies may already exist. If local data changes during review, review it again before confirming.
Removing a Google calendar hides that calendar from subsequent syncs without signing out of Google. Restore removed Google calendars reconnects accessible calendars; use Sync calendar to download their events again. Re-add CalDAV calendars through discovery. Failed OS credential deletion appears in Preferences with Retry credential cleanup, and retries after reopening. Restoring a backup explicitly reconnects the accounts/calendars included in it.
Sync covers the previous 90 days and next 365 days. Double-click a day to add an all-day event. Create, edit and delete timed, multiday and all-day events. The last date in the all-day editor is inclusive. Existing remote events use ETags to detect conflicting writes. Expanded CalDAV recurring occurrences can be viewed; edit their series using the server's calendar interface. Calendar creation and edits are synchronized through the background engine. See Google's calendar concepts for calendar and recurrence terminology.
CalDAV edits preserve existing alarms, attendees, timezones and extension fields. Successful writes update the local calendar without depending on another full sync. Interrupted creates keep the same identity when retried; conflicting edits ask you to sync. A server that omits its updated ETag can still save an event, but you must sync before editing it again.
